Emily Wu from UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School is the recipient of the 2016 Peggy Fredericksen Fellowship. Wu is in the Single Subject Teaching Credential (English) program at UCSB’s Teacher Education Program.
This fund was established to honor the memory of Peggy Fredericksen, who received her B.A. in Elementary Education from UC Santa Barbara in 1951. While attending UCSB, she met her husband, Donald Fredericksen. Peggy pursued a career teaching elementary school in Santa Barbara and Long Beach before deciding to raise her family full-time. She remained engaged in numerous civic and volunteer roles, including serving on the PTA, the League of Women Voters, and Alpha Phi Sorority’s alumni association, advancing to leadership roles in each. Peggy passed away in January 2013, and this fellowship fund has been created to honor and sustain her memory and passion for K-12 education.
