With this in mind, we seek to hire a part-time Lecturer beginning the Fall Quarter for the 2024/2025 academic year to a graduate level statistics course. This position is subject to the availability of funding and, depending on the circumstances. Courses may be added to this list as needed to cover one-time openings.

Academic offerings include undergraduate major and minor programs, masters programs with multiple specializations, professional preparation programs in elementary, secondary, and special education, and a doctoral program with multiple specializations. Teaching Responsibilities:
We are seeking an outstanding lecturer who can teach in the School’s doctoral program. The successful candidate will be skilled in effectively teaching the economically, racially, and culturally diverse student body in the context of a minority-serving institution. This includes having racial literacies and culturally sustaining pedagogical practices.

We are seeking an instructor to teach the Multivariate Statistics course (ED 216A), a course that is taught to graduate-level students in the Education and Clinical, Counseling, and School Psychology graduate students in the School of Education. Topics include applied statistical modeling approaches used with multivariate data and its graphical display. This includes but is not limited to, measures of central tendency, variance and associations of multivariate data, multivariate normal distributions and its implications in applied modeling, data reduction techniques including principal component analysis, canonical correlations, cluster analysis, discriminate analysis, MANDOV, and repeated measures designs.

The teaching approach should be accessible to applied social science students and highlight how to select the appropriate method to use with multivariate data, how to run models, interpret, and present results. The focus should be on the application of multivariate statistical methods in Education and Psychological research.

General Duties/Responsibilities:
Duties will include full responsibility for mission-driven course preparation and presentation, including but not limited to, lectures, preparation and grading of exams, office hours outside of class, advising students, and supervision of teaching assistants or readers if assigned.

GGSE Employment Procedure:

Teaching Assistant (TA) and Graduate Student Research (GSR) appointments are offered through the Departments and the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education (GGSE). Please refer to the Graduate Division’s Graduate Handbook, for detailed descriptions of the TA and GSR appointment titles and benefits (Student Academic Apprenticeships).

Teaching Assistantships are assigned by the Department Chairs based upon a request and recommendation by the course instructor. TAships are allocated pending course enrollments, type of class and available funding. Students who have a commitment for department funding as part of a fellowship package will receive some priority if they meet the criteria listed in step 3 below. The following procedure is followed in making these appointments:

1. A listing of tentative TA needs positions is posted on this page.

2. To be eligible for a Teaching Assistantship, students must meet basic criteria set forth in the University’s Academic Personnel Manual (APM410) and in the Red Binder. These include: * Registered graduate student in full-time residence, enrolled in at least 8 units * In good academic standing, including maintenance of a minimum 3.0 GPA * Making appropriate progress to degree * Evidence of academic excellence and promise as a teacher.

The total length of time a student can hold a Teaching Assistant position is four years (12 quarters). System-wide regulation does not permit graduate student appointments beyond 18 quarters. An exception to policy is required to extend a Teaching Assistant position 13 to 15 quarters. These exceptions are reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis and requires the Department Chair’s approval in CCSP and the Vice Chair's approval in ED. 3. In selecting a student for a Teaching Assistantship, the instructor and department chair will apply criteria appropriate to the needs of the course and anticipated students needs. Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director with additional guidance provided by the Director of the Teacher Education Program (TEP), the Program Coordinator provides administrative and academic support to TEP faculty and students. The Teacher Education Program consists of approximately 5 Academic Senate Faculty, 20 Lecturers, 15 Supervisors of Teacher Education, 10 Academic Coordinators and 90 credential and Masters students. The Program Coordinator is responsible for maintaining smooth operations of the program office while ensuring the completion of work in a professional and efficient manner. Responsibilities include application processing, interview weekend planning and preparations, quarterly course coordination, course evaluation coordinating and processing, department webpage maintenance, aiding faculty with the preparation of instructional materials, advising prospective students through the application process, enrolled student advising and purchasing of program supplies. May also attend various program and school meetings and works collaboratively with all Department and School staff as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Less than 1 year of experience working in an office setting/administrative work.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
40% Academic Program Support - COURSE COORDINATION SUPPORT Schedules quarterly and one time room requests and monitors the accuracy of courses and room scheduling needs each quarter. Serves as the eGrades Grading Coordinator for TEP. Prepares and provides quarterly course registration information to all enrolled students. Responsible for the coordination, ordering and distribution of quarterly course evaluations. Requires knowledge and understanding of different types of instructional employment and course structures. Processes textbook orders and provides classroom copies based on faculty requests. Collects syllabi on all TEP courses offered each quarter. Distributes and tracks approval codes to facilitate enrollment in add code required courses. Creates and modifies course waitlists based on faculty specifications. FACULTY SUPPORT Creates, monitors, updates TEP monthly calendars for Program Coordinators, instructors and students. Aides instructors with the preparation of instructional materials as requested. Prepares and sends MST quarterly placement letters for cooperating teachers and teacher candidates. STUDENT SUPPORT In conjunction with the Assistant Director and the GGSE Credential Analyst, provides student support and guidance on program procedures and processes and contact referrals for all TEP students. Serves as the primary responder to the Program Office email and phone line. Responsible for ensuring students are registered for the required courses, correct sections and number of units. Acts as an informational resource for student questions about registration. APPLICANT SUPPORT Acts as an informational resource for prospective students interested in the credential and Masters programs within the Teacher Education Program. Works collaboratively with the Assistant Director to coordinate student recruitment efforts, schedule and promote informational meetings and other recruitment events.

40% Administrative Program Support - PROGRAM ASSISTANCE Responsible for scheduling program committee meetings, preparing agendas and supplemental materials, researching issues, taking minutes, distributing and keeping record of TEP procedure and process decisions. Actively monitors and maintains social media accounts as well as TEP webpages on the GGSE website. Collects and distributes incoming mail to faculty and student mailboxes. Post notifications of upcoming events throughout the Education building. Maintains comprehensive desk manual at all times, updating processes and procedures as needed. Maintains enrolled student files. Records student teaching placements in student database for historical purposes. Maintains TEP mailboxes for faculty and students. EVENT PLANNING Organizes CPR workshops, quarterly faculty retreats, monthly Leadership meetings, informational meetings, prospective student interview weekends, TEP new student orientation and other program events as needed. Reviews, updates and revises event informational materials and forms as needed. Coordinates room reservations, refreshments, publicity, payments and other logistics ensuring adherence to campus policies and GGSE procedures. FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION Using the Gateway e-procurement system initiates and tracks purchase orders, determines allowability of purchases on fund source, sole source justification needs, etc. Provides cost analysis and obtains comparison bids for non-routine purchases. Tracks order delivery dates and expedites overdue orders. Ensures requesters are notified when items are received. Prepares departmental supply orders, and maintains organization of the supply cabinet. Responsible for processing travel advances, travel prior approvals, employee and recruitment travel reimbursements, entertainment, other reimbursements and cooperating teacher payments. Must be knowledgeable of UC policies and procedures governing travel and entertainment reimbursements, and allowable costs for travel and entertainment for a variety of funds sources including gifts and state funds. Maintains current knowledge of accounting policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with Audit, Control, and Accounting principles. VISITING STUDENT & SCHOLARS Serves as a first point of contact for all visiting students and scholars sponsored by TEP faculty. Responsible for understanding Office of International Students and Scholars and Academic Personnel policies and procedures governing scholarly visits. Assists scholars with necessary eligibility forms and documentation and compiling personnel documents to be submitted to OISS, Academic Personnel and the School. Provides assistance and orientation to scholars upon arrival.

20% Applications & Admissions - Responsible for approximately 150 application records to be reviewed by faculty during the admissions process. Schedules and coordinates faculty interviews with prospective students, reserving interview rooms and preparing interview packets. Works closely with the Assistant Director to provide continuous communication with credential applicants throughout the admission process regarding application status and program eligibility. Reviews and updates recruitment and informational materials as needed. Works with the Program Coordinators to distribute notification emails for admitted students. Updates and prepares Welcome Packet information for newly admitted/coming students. Assists the Assistant Director with developing marketing materials for recruitment purposes.
