Dr. Cortney Beasley, a clinical psychologist and founder of Put In Black, a platform dedicated to helping improve Black communities’ access to health information, will give the free public presentation, “Creating a Holistic Career as a Psychologist of Color” on January 12, 2021, from 8-9:00 am PST on Zoom. Dr. Beasley is committed to demystifying psychology and sharing information related to the health of Black communities across the nation. She received her degree in psychology from a joint program between Stanford and the Pacific Graduate School of
Psychology. UC Santa Barbara’s Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology is sponsoring the event.
The presentation will consider how personal and cultural values can serve as a guide for a career in psychology and how to practice psychology in a way that encourages us to consider all aspects of the human experience. Dr. Beasley will discuss the importance of self-reflection and considering cultural and personal perspectives outside of the Eurocentric lens that psychology is taught through. While the presentation will be framed for those pursuing a career in psychology, it does not require registration, and everyone is invited to attend via the Zoom link.
