Benjamin Boyce

Benjamin Boyce graduated last weekend with a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics from the Teacher Education Program (TEP), allowing us to officially call him a GGSE Alum. Boyce will emerge from UC Santa Barbara and into teaching the local area. Congratulations!

GGSE: What did you like most learning about? What topics did you find particularly intriguing?
Boyce:
My favorite thing to learn about this year was how to get students to explain their mathematical reasoning instead of simply reporting one word answers. I also found learning about theories of how brains process information particularly interesting.

GGSE: What did you learn about yourself this year that surprised you? About your students? About the field of Education? Etc.
Boyce:
This year I learned that I can adapt to even the craziest of schedules. I learned that my students want to learn math. I learned that education is more challenging and more rewarding than I expected.

GGSE: If you could give one piece of information that you wished every person on the planet knew about teaching or about children in schools, what would it be?
Boyce:
Everyone can do math!

GGSE: What are your plans upon graduating?
Boyce
: I took a position as a math teacher at Alta Vista Alternative School in SB Unified School District.

GGSE: Is there anyone in the Gevirtz School you would like to thank?
Boyce:
I would like to thank all the faculty and staff for their diligent efforts that supported my growth and education throughout this year. Also, I would like to thank my peers for companionship along the TEP journey.
