Anuroopa Kalbag, alumna of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School, was recognized by the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara for her outstanding work and significant contributions to public education. Kalbag, a math teacher at Dos Pueblos High School since 2009, currently teaches Math III classes and the dual enrollment and AP calculus class.
“The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara has a long history of providing support for education in our community,” County Superintendent of Schools Susan Salcido, whose office coordinates the recognition with the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara, said in a press release. “We thank them for their vision and commitment to education, and for the support and recognition they provide teachers like Anuroopa, whom we count among our community treasures.”
Born in India, Kalbag attended Smith College in Massachusetts, and earned her M.S. in mathematics from New York University. At UCSB’s Gevirtz School she earned a single subject teaching credential and a M.Ed. from the Teacher Education Program in 2008. Her husband, Carlos Barcia-Cervera, is a math professor at UCSB.
