Steve Smith has been appointed to the Board of Directors for Challenge Success, an initiative based out of Stanford’s Department of Education working to “create a more balanced and academically fulfilling life for kids” by rethinking how our society approaches learning for middle and high school students.
By using researched-based techniques, Challenge Success provides schools and families with the tools kids need to succeed by strengthening their sense of self, increasing motivation, regaining balance, and more. Challenge Success cites too much of a focus on grades, test scores and performance as detractors from students’ overall wellbeing. Since 2003, Challenge Success has reached 800,000 people at over 130 schools across the nation.
Steve Smith is an associate professor in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at the Gevirtz School at UC Santa Barbara, and currently a visiting professor at Palo Alto University for the 2015-2016 academic year. At the Gevirtz School, Smith’s teaching focuses on personality assessment, and he supervises students at the Hosford Clinic. Smith’s research interests include diversity issues in personality assessment and psychotherapy for athletes.
