The Graduate Student Association in Education at the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education (GGSE) will hold its 2024 Research Symposium on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18, featuring the theme “Strengthening Communities Through Equity-Centered Perspectives on Education.” 

In its fifth year, the Research Symposium invites scholars from all backgrounds to engage in dialogue, inspire change, and champion the principles of equity that lie at the heart of creating thriving educational environments. Student researchers from across campus are invited to showcase their own work and to foster connection building within GGSE, as well as with the larger community. 

Any graduate or undergraduate student, postdoctoral scholar, staff member, faculty, or alumni from UCSB whose work is related to education is also invited to present their research, degree-related work, or community work, at any stage of the process. 

Proposal submission information can be found at https://researchsymposium.education.ucsb.edu/.  Submissions are limited to no more than three (3) first author submissions, by the deadline date of April 5 at 11:59 pm PT. 

On Friday, May 17 at 10 a.m., keynote speaker Anne Harper Charity Hudley, Professor of Education and Associate Dean of Educational Affairs at the Stanford University Graduate School of Education, will give a talk titled “If We Collaborate, More of Us Will Make It.” She will discuss how deliberate cross-institutional research collaborations can lead to greater educational impact for graduate students in schools of education. She also will describe the efforts of the Stanford Black Academic Lab, or BAD lab, to create a paradigm for doing research that has a direct, ethical, and lasting impact in Black schools and communities in particular.
