Elizabeth Owens is the recipient of the 2022 Special Education Fellowship. The Special Education Fellowship was established by Peggy and Dick Lamb to support aspiring special education teachers who are dedicated to a long-term professional commitment of working in school settings with students who qualify for special education services, as well as with their families.
Owens is a candidate in the Teacher Education Program pursuing an Education Specialist Credential in Mild to Moderate Support Needs as well as a Master’s of Education. She received her B.A. in English for Secondary Education from Humboldt State University. Prior to that, Owen served as an Expanded Learning Mentor for CalSERVES AmeriCorps in a middle school in Napa, California. It was through this position that she discovered her passion for working with students and supporting them as they reach their full potential. She looks forward to creating an inclusive classroom community where each student knows their voice is valued.
