Jessica Hai, Kelsey Maganaris, and Kaitlynn Penner of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School have received 2019-20 Thomas G. Haring Memorial Fellowships honoring achievement in special education. Hai and Penner are doctoral students in the Special Education, Disability, and Risk research area of the Department of Education, while Kelsey Maganaris is in the Teacher Education Program as a special education, mild/moderate credential and M.Ed. candidate.
This fellowship was established in memory of Thomas G. Haring, a member of the Graduate School of Education faculty and renowned researcher and teacher, who died January 17, 1993. Dr. Haring was committed to improving the lives of individuals with special needs in education and the community. The fellowship supports students whose professional focus is educating individuals with special needs, with attention to social and applied cognitive behavior analysis in integrated educational and community settings.
