UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School will hold an information meeting for students interested in the CalTeach Physical Sciences and Engineering (CTPSE) program on Wednesday, November 19 at 12 noon in Room 4606 Physical Sciences Building North. The event will feature exceptional UCSB undergraduates, UCSB faculty, and K-12 teachers talking about paid undergraduate internships in classroom and scholarship opportunities for teacher education programs. There will also be free pizza.
The purpose of CalTeach Physical Sciences and Engineering is to encourage undergraduates in chemistry, engineering, computer science, and physics to pursue a secondary science teaching credential in chemistry or physics. CTPSE is the second Noyce program awarded to UCSB (the other program, CalTeach Santa Barbara, is in its final year). CTPSE includes opportunities to learn to teach from award-winning science teachers at Dos Pueblos High School's Engineering Academy (DPEA) and Santa Barbara High School's (SBHS) Green Academy. Students receive stipends and/or scholarships for their participation in CTPSE. Students can also receive mentoring if pursuing the Undergraduate Minor in Science and Mathematics Education and/or applying to a teacher education program. CTPSE is part of the larger UCSB CalTeach program.
