Generosity was the theme on UCSB Give Day 2022, the campus-wide annual digital fundraising event. Going into Give Day with a goal of 20 gifts, generous alumni, staff, faculty and supporters contributed 41 individual donations, raising $36,095 for The Gevirtz School in over just 36 hours. That money will support our graduate students in Education, Counseling, Clinical and School Psychology, and the Teacher Education Program through fellowships, which help remove financial barriers between scholars and their work, and supports the research-based clinics that serve our community while providing world-class training for our students.
Donors Inell and Henry Chase led the way with a $30,000 challenge gift to the Vivian Guerrier “Hope” Fellowship, inspiring others to help the school reach its donation goal.
As parents to a Gevirtz School graduate, the Chases know first-hand the importance of training the very best. While a student with the Teacher Education Program, their daughter received a letter from a second-grade parent that made a lasting impact on the entire family. It read, in part: “You have taught our daughter life skills we could never have given her. The way you give to your students unconditionally is a blessing. Our daughter has a brighter future because you entered her life. Thank you for picking teaching as your profession.”
“I am overjoyed to see how Give Day 2022 rallied support for the university and united Gevirtz School Gauchos far and near,” says Jules Zimmer Dean Jeffrey Milem. “Each gift helps us increase our academic excellence and high-impact research, so that we can apply research-proven knowledge-to-practice. I would like to thank all of those who gave, whether alumni, faculty, staff, current students, or friends of the School.”
Overall UCSB raised just over $6 million from 1725 donors this Give Day.
