We recently caught up with Corey Radis a single subject teaching credential candidate in the Teacher Education Program. Corey, who is from Santa Barbara, has a Master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Stanford and a BS from Stanford in earth systems. She is also the operations coordinator for Heal the Ocean.
GGSE: What motivates you to pursue teaching?
Radis: I love working with students and am excited to share my passion for life, knowledge and learning. I am particularly interested in science and engineering, and want to help prepare a generation of students to tackle the challenges facing Earth and humanity.
GGSE: What's been a highlight of your TEP experience so far?
Radis: The highlight of my TEP experience so far has been student teaching in the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy (DPEA). The DPEA is an award winning 4-year program that applies project-based learning to teach high school students critical, analytical, design, and problem-solving skills. At the DPEA, high school students are getting a college-level education. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to learn about and be a part of such an innovative education program.
GGSE: What's your favorite movie?
Radis: It’s a tie between Cool Runnings and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
