Rebeca Mireles-Rios of UC Santa Barbara's Gevirtz School is the co-director--with Lisa Park, professor and chair of Asian American studies--of the new ÉXITO program. Known in full as Educational eXcellence and Inclusion Training Opportunities, it will develop a “4+1” program in which UCSB students graduate with a bachelor’s degree in an ethnic studies or feminist studies major, then earn a master’s and a teaching credential at the Gevirtz School's Teacher Education Program. ÉXITO recently received a significant boost with the award of $3 million over five years from the U.S. Department of Education’s Title V program.
