CCSP students volunteer at Harding University Partnership School’s Cinco de Mayo celebration.
Graduate students from the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology (CCSP) from UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School volunteered to help at the Harding University Partnership School’s Cinco de Mayo Fundraiser/Celebration on May 3. This fourth annual fundraising event — coordinated by The Harding School Foundation — raises critical funds for enriched learning experiences for more than 500 students in preschool through sixth grade at Harding University Partnership School (HUPS). The celebration included Mexican food for purchase, a silent auction, booths, games, and fun for the entire family. All funds raised support and promote the International Baccalaureate (IB) program so that students can enjoy integrated learning through field trips, educational presentations and hands-on experiences.
The CCSP volunteers helped with a variety of activities including assisting other volunteers signing in, serving food, helping at booths and bouncy houses, and playing with the students and their families. Their participation in this event at Harding was one more way that CCSP faculty and graduate students partner with the HUPS staff to support the emotional, behavioral, and positive well-being of students and their families; advanced graduate students provide direct services to students and families every
The event was an absolute success,” says Associate Professor Erin Dowdy. “It was a fantastic opportunity to join with the families, students, and staff at our partnership school to help raise funds to support the IB program.”
“Volunteering was a great experience,” asserts graduate student Elisa Vasquez. “The staff was all very friendly and welcoming. This was a chance for us to join together across emphases and across years to support HUPS and their efforts in maintaining quality education for their students. We were glad to give our time for such a great cause!”
