The Department of Education at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School will hold a virtual Open House for prospective students on Thursday, October 27 from 10-11 am on Zoom. The event will also feature a Q&A.
Participants will learn about how the Department’s faculty work in three program areas to investigate issues that shape learning environments, the needs of diverse learners, the development of disciplinary knowledge, educational policies, and research methods:
- Culture, Language and Human Development (CLHD)
- Learning, Teaching, and Teacher Education (LTTE)
- Policy, Program Evaluation, and Research Methods (PPRM)
Participants will also learn how the Department’s doctoral program mentors graduate students through small seminars and research groups toward future careers as professors, researchers, teacher educators, and educational administrators. They will also learn how the Department’s master's program (which includes both professional and research strands) offers opportunities to learn the basics of doing and applying research in settings ranging from K-12 schools, to the university, to community organizations.
Please note: The Department of Education does not offer a teacher certification program; if you are interested in becoming a K-12 teacher, please consider the Teacher Education Program instead.
