Daniel Choi from UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School is the recipient of the 2018 Lubchenco - Gaines Fellowship. This fellowship, made possible by a generous endowment by Peggy Lubchenco and Steven Gaines, is intended to support single subject credential candidates with a focus in teaching biology in UCSB’s Teacher Education Program. Choi just received his single subject credential in science and his M.Ed.
Steven Gaines, dean of UC Santa Barbara’s Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, and Peggy Lubchenco, recently retired continuing lecturer and academic coordinator at the Gevirtz School, both have teaching in their DNA. Realizing teachers do not receive enough financial compensation, Gaines and Lubchenco want to reward teaching excellence as their small contribution to help develop exceptional teachers.
