Bethany Hicks and Daina Tagavi of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School have received 2016-17 Thomas G. Haring Memorial Fellowships honoring achievement in special education. Hicks is working on her Education Specialist teaching credential and M.Ed. in the Teacher Education Program; Tagavi is a doctoral student in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology with an emphasis in Clinical Psychology, working with Dr. Bob Koegel in the Koegel Autism Center.
This fellowship was established in memory of Thomas G. Haring, a member of the Graduate School of Education faculty and renowned researcher and teacher, who died January 17, 1993. Dr. Haring was committed to improving the lives of individuals with special needs in education and the community. The fellowship supports students whose professional focus is educating individuals with special needs, with attention to social and applied cognitive behavior analysis in integrated educational and community settings.
