Aria Bauman from UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School is the recipient of the 2015 Lubchenco - Gaines Fellowship. This new fellowship, made possible by a generous endowment by Peggy Lubchenco and Steven Gaines, is intended to support single subject credential candidates with a focus in teaching biology in UCSB’s Teacher Education Program.
“Aria Bauman epitomizes the type of candidate we search for in our UCSB Teacher Education Program,” states Peggy Lubchenco. “She is kind, smart, adventurous, intellectually curious, and generous. She will be a stellar teacher. Steve and I are thrilled that she is the first recipient of the Lubchenco - Gaines Fellowship.”
Steven Gaines and Peggy Lubchenco both have teaching in their DNA. Realizing teachers do not receive enough financial compensation, Gaines and Lubchenco want to reward teaching excellence as their small contribution to help develop exceptional teachers. This is the first year Gaines and Lubchenco are supporting this fellowship.
