UC Santa Barbara Gevirtz School Teacher Education Program (TEP) alumna Kirsten Turner (SST/M.Ed., ’15) recently won the Middle School Teacher Golden Apple award in the Vista Unified School District. The award earns her the title “2021 Teacher of the Year.”
Since she graduated from TEP six years ago, Turner has been working as a history teacher at Roosevelt Middle School in Oceanview, CA. She is the grade-level lead on the Instructional Leadership Team and the History Department Chair, and she has serves as the Artful Learning Coordinator and site lead. She is commended this year for her leadership abilities and community engagement.
“Kirsten Turner is incredibly dedicated and committed to serving the students, staff, and community at Roosevelt, and she sets the gold standard for leadership among her peers,” Matt Doyle, Superintendent of Vista Unified School District, writes in his award letter. “There is no challenge too great or too small for her to tackle, and she has made a tremendous impact on RMS.”
