Alumna Erin Beerer of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School was recognized as Family Educator of the Year, K-8, by the Autism Society of Ventura County at the 2022 Annual Awesome in Autism Awards. Autism Society Ventura County seeks to improve the lives of all affected by Autism through education, advocacy, the promotion of research, increasing public awareness, and collaboration with other agencies.
Beerer (TEP, ESC, M.Ed., ’18) is currently a Special Education teacher at Balboa Middle School. Beerer supports students with disabilities that are moderately to severely impactful on their lives and strives to provide them with access to opportunities equal to their typically developing peers. After receiving her B.S. in Sociology from UC Riverside in 2013, she worked for two years as a behavior therapist with ABA Bears. Beerer also received the 2017-2018 Special Education Fellowship, an award supporting special education teachers who are dedicated to a long-term professional commitment to working in school settings with students who qualify for special education services, as well as with their families. Beerer is also a 2022 LAUNCH speaker and VEPGrant recipient.
