Alice Mullin of the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School has won the 2022-23 International Center for School-Based Youth Development Award for Student Leadership in School-Based Research.
Mullin is a doctoral student in the School Psychology emphasis under Dr. Jill Sharkey. She graduated from Scripps College with a B.A. in psychology. Following graduation, she began working as a project coordinator in Dr. Allison Harvey’s lab at UC Berkeley. The lab focused on the development and implementation of a behavioral sleep intervention for both youth and adults. Currently, her research interests include reducing barriers to and improving engagement with evidence-based treatments within youth systems, with a particular focus on the sustainment of successful treatments. Most recently, she has also become interested in examining the role of school climate as a barrier/motivator to sustainment. She is particularly interested in increasing historically underserved populations’ access to such interventions.
This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated leadership in school-based research. Their project must address the mission of the International Center for School-Based Youth Development (iCSBYD), which is to engage in research that informs educators how to enhance school engagement and thereby promote all students’ social and academic competence.
iCYSBD is a community of researchers devoted to developing a better understanding of the role of school engagement as a protective force in children's lives that promotes academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being.
