The Koegel Autism Center is currently developing a cutting edge Toddler and School-age Programs that will focus on the development and implementation of novel approaches to remedy the core symptoms of autism in young children. Drawing from a foundation of naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions, the program will focus on the promotion of synergistic parent-child interactions that generate crucial social momentum and jumpstart child development.
Pivotal Response Treatment - Multi-Day Parent Training Program
OVERVIEW
Our Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) Multi-Day Parent Training Program is designed to help parents and caregivers learn and master a set of core, motivation-based autism intervention strategies that they can use with their child for years to come. We are currently booking 2-4 months out.
Our program teaches caregivers how to implement PRT, a set of highly effective yet engaging strategies that are used to teach children with autism how to talk, socialize, play, learn, and manage challenging behaviors. PRT draws from motivational and behavioral strategies and is strongly backed by science - it is recognized as one of the leading comprehensive autism intervention models and was developed here at UCSB!
Our intervention programs are geared towards children ages 2-7 years old who are non-verbal or minimally verbal to promote language development, communication, and socialization, as well as verbally fluent children who seek to promote social interaction skills and positive behavior support. At this time, our program is not geared towards individuals with aggressive and severely disruptive behaviors. We are also able to offer this service to parents of children between the ages of 8-12; however, we first must conduct a screening to determine whether the program is a good fit for the needs of the family. Please contact our center for more information or if you wish to receive alternative referrals and resources.
Each program is tailored to the unique needs of your child and targets core areas of development, such as social engagement, language development, social interaction skills, flexibility, and behavioral regulation skills. Our unique program utilizes the latest strategies drawn from the motivation-based autism intervention research (PRT, Social Tools and Rules for Teens/Transitions socialization strategies, self-management, and positive behavior support).
We currently offer only an online version of our program:
ONLINE (TELEHEALTH)
Our online PRT parent education program can be accessed from the comfort of your home and is provided through a secure, encrypted (HIPAA compliant) platform (Zoom for Telehealth). This is a behavioral consultation service in which we provide training to you in Pivotal Response Treatment based on the specific support needs of your child.
Our online program is ten days long (typically Monday-Friday) and consists of 10 hours of training (1 hour each day). Each morning, there is a one hour parent education session, where we will work with you one-on-one and teach you the strategies through interactive lessons and video examples. In the afternoon, we will hold a one hour parent-child hands on session, where we will coach you through implementing PRT live with your child. We highly encourage you to use the time in between sessions and later in the afternoon to continue practicing the strategies with your child.
Prior to begining the program, we will have you complete some background information forms and submit some videos of you playing with your child in order to track your family's progression through the program.
