Amanda joined the TEP program in pursuit of her Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential and her Master’s Degree in Education. Amanda grew up in Orange County, California, and graduated from UCSB with a B.A. in political science in 2024. During her undergraduate studies she became increasingly interested in the effects of mindfulness. Amanda began consistently meditating a few years back and hasn’t stopped since. She started to notice major physical and emotional improvements in her own life, even after just a few weeks of practicing meditation. She wonders why mindfulness is left out of our public school curriculum and she started an organization, Mindful Mentors, to fill this gap. Coordinating groups of UCSB volunteers to teach mindfulness lessons in local elementary classrooms, Amanda feels most like herself when she is writing curriculum or leading a team. This experience shapes her vision of bringing mindfulness and meditation into her future classrooms.
