Participants at work during a previous SCWriP Summer Institute

The South Coast Writing Project (SCWriP) is pleased to announce its 36th Annual Invitational Summer Institute in Composition and Critical Literacy. This premier four-week professional development event will be held June 23rd-July 18th, Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-2:45 pm, on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara.

SCWriP is currently accepting applications for the Institute. Classroom teachers seeking to improve classroom practice or school administrators looking to change the culture of a school are encouraged to apply. During this four-week think-tank, teachers from all grade-levels, K to college, across all disciplines collaboratively investigate best practices in writing and literacy instruction through shared demonstrations of practice, readings, and an intense focus on our own writing and reading processes.

“The summer institutes develop a cadre of teacher-leaders who conduct open enrollment and school site inservice programs for teachers, schools, school districts, and colleges throughout the central coast region of California,” says SCWriP Director Tim Dewar. “SCWriP is a vital resource for teachers and schools throughout the South Coast interested in improving the teaching of writing, from assignment through instruction to assessment. We strive to be a model of professional learning, teacher leadership, and reform.”

As an affiliated site of the National Writing Project (NWP) and the California Writing Project (CWP), SCWriP seeks to transform the teaching of writing and literacy and strives to be a model of professional learning, teacher leadership, and reform. The prgoram does this by working with teachers, schools, districts, students, and families. SCWriP is housed in the Gevritz School at UC Santa Barbara.
