The International Mind, Brain, and Education Society (IMBES) has elected Matthew Shackley as the new Secretary on the Trainee Board for the 2020 year. As secretary, he will be responsible for upholding the mission and goals of the IMBES, and help create useful research direction and promising educational practices for the future.
IMBES is an international professional organization for researchers working at the intersection of the neuroscience, cognitive science, and education fields. The mission of this organization is to contribute to and enhance knowledge in the education, biology, and developmental sciences, and create resources for scientists, practitioners, public policy makers, and the community.
Matthew Shackley is a doctoral student in the Department of Education. Working with Dr. Julie Bianchini, he is pursuing emphases in Science Education and Cognitive Science. He received his B.S. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2014 where he majored in Biological Sciences. In 2017, he obtained his M.S. in Teaching and Learning from Colorado State University. He also gained teaching experience in Las Vegas, Nevada as a middle school teacher. His research interests include developing culturally relevant models of science education as and for participation in community activity. He believes that it is vital to improve scientific literacy across the population in order to address social, economic, and environmental issues in the 21st century, and this core value inspires his work and research.
