Gevirtz School Professor Dr. George A. Marcoulides will co-present a keynote titled “New Frontiers for Improving Campus’ Student Success: Harnessing the Power of a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) Approach” with Dr. Ellen Junn, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at CSU Dominguez Hills, at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Decision Sciences Institute, November 21-24 in Seattle.
SEM methodology has gained attention recently as a way to understand and model student retention and graduation rates, thereby measuring student success. Using SEM at CSU Dominguez Hills has allowed researchers to successfully analyze the complexity of a university and the impacts of different processes. In the keynote presentation, Dr. Marcoulides will explain the findings from the SEM model at CSU Dominguez Hills and explain the methodology used in greater detail.
The conference’s theme is Decision Sciences in the 21st Century: Theoretical Impact and Practical Relevance. The presentations will focus on research and educational/professional development. Overall, the Decision Sciences Institute brings together professionals who are interested in the application of quantitative and behavioral methods to the problems of society.
Dr. George A. Marcoulides is Professor of Research Methodology in the Department of Education at UC Santa Barbara.
