The Sacramento State Alumni Association has selected Dr. Meagan O’Malley, an alumna of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School, for its 2019 Rising Star Award. In addition to the award, O’Malley has just received promotion to Associate Professor of School Psychology with tenure at California State University, Sacramento. The award honors her distinguished service, lifetime achievement, support and leadership, and outstanding contributions. O’Malley earned her Ph.D. from UCSB’s Department of Counseling, Clinical and School Psychology in 2011.
After O’Malley earned Master’s in Education and a Pupil Personnel Services (School Psychology) credential at Sacramento State, O’Malley completed her doctorate at UCSB and took a post-doctoral internship at The School at Columbia University. She has since worked as a school psychologist, Research Associate, and Senior Research and Programmatic Advisor for WestEd. She joined the faculty at the Sacramento State College of Education in 2016. In just those few years, O’Malley has served as a member of the Faculty Senate’s Curriculum Polices Committee and Grade Appeals panel, on the College of Education’s Multicultural Education Conference Committee, and the Educational Research and Inquiry Committee. She has served as an intern school psychology supervisor and supervised two different assessment practicums, in addition to teaching graduate courses.
